Conclusion
(Mikayla)
To recap, this report's objective was for our team to analyze ShopRite’s business processes and information systems, and use our knowledge learned throughout this course to come up with recommendations on how the company can improve its existing systems. We researched and examined the store's existing structured information systems, dynamic social media sites, and interviewed store manager Jose Ramirez Jr. Who we would like to thank again for aiding us in our study. We learned how the company utilizes different IBM products and their app during their sales process, and Instagram throughout their marketing process. We were able to see how the company's five forces model, based on Michael Porter's theory, competitive strategy, and value chain create a sustainable competitive advantage for ShopRite. As well as doing an in-depth study of the five components of each information system; the hardware, software, data, people, and procedures. We were able to come up with some areas that need improvement and also see what areas new technology, like AI and cryptocurrencies, could be implemented to put the company ahead of everyone else. We believe that adding these recommendations to ShopRites systems will enhance and assist the company’s success. By completing this project, our team has been able to expand our knowledge of management information systems and business strategies by viewing how they are applied in real-life scenarios. And each one of us will be able to use this information in our future careers.
Key Takeaways (Mikayla)
Information systems help all types of businesses reach their goals and they are used in almost all functions/departments.
Structured processes must be well defined so that the results are consistent, efficient, and minimal errors are made.
Information silos can hinder how functional an information system is. In ShopRite’s case, it annoys the customers to a point where most don't want to even utilize the Shop from Home service.
Social media is a great way to market yourself, mostly because of how little it costs and how wide of an audience you can reach.
There are many areas for AI to potentially be implemented in grocery stores.
