Introduction

Our team will be researching the management information systems utilized by Shoprite in their structured sales process and dynamic marketing process to see how much of an impact the procedures have on the company's overall performance. We will be analyzing their point of sale systems, and the ShopRite app, used during checkouts to see how Shoprite maximizes efficiency to increase customer satisfaction and revenue. Also, we will research how they utilize Instagram to market themselves to their consumers. And finally how their technology gives the company a sustainable competitive advantage. We will be gaining our knowledge for this project through research and current members of the ShopRite team, who are proficient in the company’s information systems.
The overarching purpose of the project is to take the knowledge learned throughout this course and apply it to a real-life situation. In our case, it’s seeing how MIS concepts, skills, and strategies work their way into Shoprite’s sales and marketing information systems. We will then be able to analyze the information we discover and recommend what the company could do to progress the systems they already have in place. We hope to not only expand our comprehension of technology used in business but also assist a company in updating its information systems.

Company Description (Mikayla)

Shoprite is a retailer’s cooperative grocery store located throughout the tri-state area and in some select surrounding states. They have locations in Connecticut, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The Shoprite chain contains over three hundred stores, of which twenty-eight of them are owned and operated by their parent organization Wakefern Food Corporation. The company targets the average middle-class family by keeping its stores affordable and accessible. One of the ways that they have made themselves even more accessible to their consumers was by creating their “ShopRite from Home” service that lets the customer create an online order and have their groceries delivered right to them. Along with that Shoprite has its pharmaceutical counters located in the store for consumers to receive quick and easy medication pickup. And their liquor stores called, “Shoprite Wines and Spirits.” To wrap up Shoprite goods and services their grocery store contains all forms of baked goods, health, and beauty products, produce, seafood, meats, floral arrangements, and much more. What will be discussed in further detail through this report will be the IBM SurePOS 700 point of sale systems and the IBM 4690 operating systems located at the checkout lanes in Shoprite. The ShopRite app, which can be downloaded on any mobile device. And the social media site Instagram, including its analytics feature.

Shoprite Manager Bio (Frantz)

We met with Jose Ramirez Jr., a ShopRite store manager. He has been with the company for fifteen years. And was gracious enough to answer the questions we had for him. He is responsible for overseeing all departments, and employees, of the supermarket and makes sure everything runs smoothly.  He also directly handles major customer service issues and ensures that sales information systems, like the POS, are running smoothly to ensure proper transactions.

Acknowledgments      Our team would like to thank ShopRite manager Jose Ramirez Jr. for his knowledge and assistance throughout this analysis of the company’s management information systems. Without him, we wouldn't have been able to discover insider aspects of the store’s management concepts, skills, and strategies.

Dynamic Process Analysis

Dynamic Marketing Process (Frantz)                 Dynamic processes are flexible, informal, and adaptive processes that normally involve strategic and less structured managerial decisions and activities. For Shoprite, we will focus on its marketing process. Shoprite’ marketing process involves the Four P’s which are product, price, place, and promotion. In their product strategy, Shoprite showcases how they have a wide variety of products in their supermarkets such as food products, beauty supplies, medical supplies, appliances, and etc. Their products are meant to target middle class Americans. They offer their store catalogs to every customer where it shows their special deals, coupons, and other offerings. They also have their Shoprite app where they showcase and offer different products from many different brands across various categories to their customers. Using their pricing strategy, Shoprite gives out special offers on their pr...
